The CAF is a key part of delivering frontline services that are integrated and focused around the needs of children and young people. It is a standardised approach to conducting an assessment of a child's additional needs and deciding how those needs should be met. The CAF consists of:
a simple pre-assessment checklist to help practitioners identify children who would benefit from a common assessment;
a process of undertaking a common assessment, to help practitioners gather and understand information about the needs of the child;
a standard form to help practitioners record, and where appropriate, share with others, the findings from the assessment.
Practitioners can check if a common assessment exists for a child, or register that they are undertaking one, by contacting the CAF Coordinator on 01823 410180, email: CAFCoordinator@somerset.gov.uk
