Sharing information is vital for early intervention to ensure that children and young people with additional needs get the services they require. It is important that practitioners are aware of when, why and how they should share information so that they can do so confidently, legally and appropriately as part of their day-to-day practice.
In 2005 Somerset Children and Young People’s Partnership agreed guidance for sharing information between different service groups. Most agencies in Somerset are now signed up to the guidance. You can download a copy below.
National information sharing guidance, published by DCSF in November 2008, is available from the Every Child Matters website at:
This guidance is for practitioners who have to make decisions about sharing
personal information on a case-by-case basis, whether they are:
• working in the public, private or voluntary sectors;
• providing services to children, young people, adults and/or families; and
• working as an employee, a contractor or a volunteer.
